The Polish Olympic Committee\u2019s Chapter of the Grand Honorary Sports Award of Piotr Nurowski selected the winners for 2020. These are: Iga \u015awi\u0105tek, Robert Lewandowski and Piotr Sierzputowski, the coach of our tennis player.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polish Olympic Committee\u2019s Grand Honorary Sports Award of Piotr Nurowski for 2020 was granted in two categories. In the “Player” category, the laureates were Iga \u015awi\u0105tek (tennis player, the champion of the Roland Garros Tournament) and Robert Lewandowski (the captain of the Polish national football team, named the men\u2019s player of the year at the Best FIFA Football Awards 2020). In the “Trainer” category, the award was given to Piotr Sierzputowski (Iga \u015awi\u0105tek\u2019s coach). There was no prize awarded in the “Team” category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 We are extremely proud of the achievements of Iga \u015awi\u0105tek and her trainer, and Robert Lewandowski. All of them have achieved spectacular and unquestionable successes. Their attitude and results set a great example for everyone and prove that talent, hard work and determination bear fruit. Both Iga \u015awi\u0105tek and Robert Lewandowski are great ambassadors of Poland in the world. We are impressed with their performance \u2013 said Andrzej Kra\u015bnicki, the President of the Polish Olympic Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Grand Honorary Sports Award of the Polish Olympic Committee was established in 2009. This distinction refers to an Award of the State Office of Physical Education and Military Training granted in 1927-38 and honours the greatest sports achievements of the past year. In the inter-war period its laureates were Halina Konopacka, Janusz Kusoci\u0144ski, Jadwiga Wajs\u00f3wna, Stanis\u0142aw Petkiewicz, Stanis\u0142aw Marusarz\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first laureates of the \u201econtemporary\u201d Award were: for 2009 in the sports category: ex aequo \u2013 a winner of three medals at the World Championship in Liberec and the triumpher of the World Cup in 2008\/2009 \u2013 Justyna Kowalczyk (cross-country skiing) and a record-holder and world champion (Berlin) in the hammer throw \u2013 Anita W\u0142odarczyk (athletics), a trainer \u2013 Aleksander Wojciechowski (rowing) and a Polish men\u2019s representation in handball (bronze medallists of the World Championship).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2010 the Award is named after Piotr Nurowski, a former President of the Polish Olympic Committee who died tragically in the Smolensk air disaster. In 2010-2019 the Polish Olympic Committee\u2019s Grand Honorary Sports Award of Piotr Nurowski was granted to: Pawe\u0142 Fajdek (athletics), Kamil Stoch (ski jumping), Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Irmina Mr\u00f3zek-Gliszczynska (sailing), Anita W\u0142odarczyk (athletics), Magdalena Fularczyk-Koz\u0142owska and Natalia Madaj (rowing), Zbigniew Br\u00f3dka (speed skating), Justyna Kowalczyk (cross-country skiing), Micha\u0142 Kwiatkowski (cycling), Tomasz Majewski (athletics) or Katarzyna Bachleda-Curu\u015b, Katarzyna Wo\u017aniak, Luiza Z\u0142otkowska (speed skating).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
